WNBL Great Moments: Batkovic v Cambage
April 24, 2012, 10:14 AM AEST

Liz Cambage, left, and Suzy Batkovic put on a show to remember when they went head-to-head in Gawler.

When you have the two biggest stars in the WNBL meet you can be sure there will be value for punters and that was precisely what happened when Suzy Batkovic and Liz Cambage went head-to-head at Gawler’s Starplex Centre in WNBL Round 7.

Batkovic came into the match on the back of a 38-point outing against the Dandenong Rangers, while Cambage had just dropped 33 points and pulled in 14 rebounds two nights earlier against the West Coast Waves, ensuring the form lines were strong for both juggernauts heading into the showdown.

Fans were treated to show by the two stars, proving not only why they are the premier players in the WNBL, but why they are key members of the Jayco Opals push for Olympic glory.

Cambage was deadly from the field, hitting 12-of-14 shots, including 2-of-2 from three point territory to finish the night with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.

A night like that from the 20-year-old would guarantee a “W” for the Bulleen Boomers on most occasions, but the soon-to-be-crowned WNBL MVP Batkovic had other ideas.

15-of-26 from the field, with 3-of-6 from downtown saw Batkovic accumulate a game-high 37 points to add to her 9 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the Adelaide Lightning to an 87-77 victory.

Was the battle between Batkovic and Cambage one of your favourite moments of the 2011/12 WNBL season? Or do you like something else?
