The Dandenong Jayco Rangers have just taken another leap towards their title defence, confirming that WNBL star centre and Canadian International, Krista Phillips has re-signed for the 2012/2013 Season.

Phillips was huge for the Jayco Rangers, averaging 11.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 11/12 and was a catalyst in Dandenong’s end of season surge towards the championship game.

“Ecstatic is the word for Krista re-signing for next season,” Jayco Rangers Coach Mark Wright said today. “She will be a better player for the Rangers this upcoming season after her experience last season and I believe she would have high expectations of herself as well. She is a tremendous person and a much liked team mate who could truly dominate the WNBL.”

The towering six-foot-six centre is currently on duty with the Canadian National Team, and will be looking to help book her team into the London Olympics at the qualifying tournament in Turkey later this month.

“I am very excited to be returning to Dandenong for a second year,” Phillips said via email from her home base. “I really enjoyed myself, and improved my skills as an individual player under the coaching of Mark Wright. I feel that, although we won the championship we have just scratched the surface of our potential as a team. With the majority of our players returning, as well as the new additions we have high expectations of nothing less than securing a spot in the championship for the 2012/2013 season.”

Phillips played a vital role for the Jayco Rangers in the finals, matching up on league heavyweights Suzy Batkovic and Liz Cambage. Dandenong will again call upon her in a big way with the return of Lauren Jackson to the league in 12/13.

The signing of Krista Phillips takes the Jayco Rangers roster to ten. Stay tuned to dandenongrangers.com for more news, coming soon.
