The Sydney Uni Wheelkings and Sydney Uni Wheelchair Flames launched the respective seasons at a special function at the Sydney Uni Sports and Aquatic Centre on Thursday.
The two elite teams joined representatives from Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness, Wheelchair Sports NSW, the Southern Design Flames and the Wentworth Leagues Club at the launch, which also heralded the official welcome of the Wheelkings to the program.
The Wheelchair Flames compete in the National Women's Wheelchair Basketball League, while the Wheelkings play in the National Wheelchair Basketball League.
Coaches Alan Cox (Wheelchair Flames) and Gerry Hewson (Wheelkings)introduced their teams and were interviewed about the season ahead and the two teams then played a brief exhbition match.
SUSF Executive Director Rob Smithies welcomed the Wenty Leagues Wheelkings to the Sydney University family and spoke about SUSF"s ongoing commitment to wheelchair basketball.
The Wheelchair Flames start their quest for a remarkable tenth consecutive championship next month, while the Wheelkings are working towards a home opener against cross town rivals the Razorbacks on June 18.
