The 2012/13 WNBL season will tip-off on October 5 this year, with a Grand Final rematch.

The 2012/13 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) season will tip-off on October 5 this year, with a rematch of last season’s Grand Final between the Dandenong Rangers and Bulleen Boomers featured on Opening Night.

Basketball Australia released the full 2012/13 WNBL schedule today, with all nine teams playing 24 home-and-away games during the regular season.

Opening Night features the Rangers hosting Bulleen at the Dandenong Basketball Centre in a rematch of the title game last season, when Dandenong beat Bulleen 94-70 to claim the WNBL title.

Opening Night also sees the Bendigo Spirit travel to Adelaide Arena to face the Adelaide Lightning. The Spirit face a first-up road double as they will journey to Perth as well to take on the West Coast Waves on Saturday 6 October.

The Canberra Capitals, who will be bolstered by the return of WNBA superstar Lauren Jackson sometime after the start of the new season, will visit old rivals the Sydney Uni Flames in Round One on Saturday 6 October.

Round One will also feature an all-Queensland clash when intrastate rivals the Townsville Fire host the Logan Thunder on Saturday 6 October at RSL Stadium in Townsville.

A key feature of the new WNBL season will be a series of games taken to regional centres.  In Round Five the West Coast Waves will host Bulleen in Eaton, Western Australia while Logan will host a ‘home’ game against Dandenong in Rockhampton, Queensland.  Jackson will also play for the Caps before her adoring home crowd in Albury in the stadium which now bears her name in Round Seven.  West Coast will also host Sydney Uni in Alice Springs in Round 18.

The regular season will consist of 19 rounds and will run through until 16 February.  The 2013 WNBL Finals series will commence on Saturday 23 February with the Grand Final scheduled to be conducted on Sunday 10 March.

The 2012/13 WNBL season will once again feature live free-to-air television coverage on ABC-TV, with the broadcast schedule set to be announced in the coming weeks.
