The Jayco Opals play Brazil tonight in Game Three of The Farewell Series and are looking for a sweep.
The Jayco Opals Australian women’s national basketball team will be reaching for the brooms when they play Brazil tonight in the final game of The Farewell Series at the State Basketball Centre in Melbourne’s Wantirna South, with a win giving them a sweep of the three-game series.
Australia won Game One at Hisense Arena before a massive crowd of over 9,000 screaming fans on Sunday, 85-64, and then assured themselves of a series victory with a tough 80-73 win in Bendigo on Tuesday night.
A victory tonight will give them a clean 3-0 sweep of the series with world number six Brazil and provide them with the perfect springboard on the road to London.
After being rested in the series opener due to hamstring tightness, Jayco Opals superstar Lauren Jackson was impressive in Game Two scoring 15 points in just 17 minutes on the floor.
In some good news for the fans that will pack the State Basketball Centre tonight, Jayco Oapls head coach Carrie Graf has indicated that she will gradually be increasing Jackson’s minutes ahead of London.
''If that was the Olympics, we'd play her. It's not, so we need to hold her back,'' Graf told AAP. ''But the minutes will be on the increase. We've got to be smart about easing her back.''
