She was told basketball was not an option when a back injury forced her out of the game for more than three years in 2001.
Since her WNBL debut in 1996 she has rolled her ankle once. But that rolled ankle kept her out of basketball for three months.
So it's understandable that when the Canberra Capitals guard was told she had a niggling shoulder injury, all she could do was smile.
Despite not participating in training this week, Bibby is confident of taking to the court against the Townsville Fire tomorrow night and the Logan Thunder on Sunday.
''It feels okay and I seem to be able to move it fine but the question is whether it will be able to stand up against contact,'' Bibby said.
''I've been unfortunate in that I've never had niggling injuries. When I get hurt, I really get hurt.
''It's frustrating but I know what I have to do with my body to keep it in shape and I'm pretty confident, even with a little bit of discomfort, I will get on the court.''
Bibby has been the spark in the Capitals camp in her new role as an impact player from the bench.
Contact with a Bulleen Boomers player last Friday night saw the energetic guard hit the floor and she was unable to take her place for the second half.
It was the second week in a row Bibby was unable to finish a match after she collided with Australian Institute of Sport player Elizabeth Cambage the week before.
If it were up to Bibby she would be on the floor with her teammates in both matches this weekend but the final decision will come down to coach Carrie Graf.
''It's not worth risking it just because of the physicality of the injury,'' Graf said.
''Bibby takes more hits than any player I've ever coached or coached against.
''In practice alone she probably takes a dozen big hits a week and you sit back and see some bone-crushing hits. Unless the physios go, 'Yeah she's really good', we won't risk her. If she takes a hit it's just too damaging.''
A shuffle in the Capitals' roster moved Bibby from the starting five to the bench this year.
In her six matches so far she has averaged 13 points, including 22 against the AIS, with last round's match the only time she failed to enter double digits.
''Bib's a huge part of our team and an unbelievable spark off the bench,'' Graf said.
Bibby will attempt to train with the squad tonight.
If the 29-year-old gets through unscathed she said she would try to convince Graf she was right to play.
