Round in Review: Flames further their claim for the title

23.11.09

With two wins from two outings the Sydney Uni Flames were the biggest winners of the week, drawing level with Bendigo Spirit on a 7 win, 3 loss record.

The Flames were dominant on their home court on Friday night, taking care of Adelaide 77-62, and escaped country Victoria with a one-point win over Bendigo, 70-69 on Sunday.

The Flames hold on to fourth place on the ladder behind Bendigo on points differential, but increased their lead over the Canberra Capitals who split their weekend with a home victory over Logan Thunder before falling to Townsville Fire on the road.

Thunder got a big win over the AIS to stay in touch with the finals contenders while Townsville’s win gave the North Queenslanders extra breathing space on the ladder before they head south to Victoria on a double header road trip in Round 9.

The Bulleen Boomers also furthered their lead over the rest of the field with an easy win over the Perth Lynx. It was a disappointing road trip for the Lynx who also fell to the Dandenong Rangers on Saturday.
