Sydney Uni Flames centre Suzy Batkovic-Brown and coach Karen Dalton have been voted the Player and Coach of the Month for November* in the WNBL.

Batkovic-Brown and Dalton tallied the highest number of votes by a clear margin in the awards voted by media and WNBL head coaches.

The pair led the Flames to an unbeaten 5-0 win-loss record and into second place on the WNBL ladder in November.

Batkovic-Brown was awarded back-to-back WNBL Player of the Week honours in November. In Round 8 she averaged 20.4 points and 14 rebounds to lift Sydney past Adelaide and Bendigo and in Round 9 she equalled her season best tally 31 points to go with 12 rebounds in a road win over Canberra.

She tallied four double-doubles in five games to average 23.2 points and 11.4 rebounds per game in the month.

Over the course of the month the two-time Olympian lifted her averages to lead the league in defensive rebounds (8.1) and total rebounds (10.3) per game and maintained her ranking in points per game (second with 23.5) and blocked shots (third with 2.0).

October Player of the Month and Bendigo Spirit point guard Kristi Harrower and Bulleen Boomers centre Liz Cambage registered the second and third highest number of votes behind Batkovic-Brown.

Dalton was the only coach to hold an unbeaten record in November, boasting an average winning margin of 16.7 points per game. She led the Flames on a five-game winning streak to lift the team from sixth place on the league ladder after October, into second place at the end of November.

Under Dalton’s leadership Sydney Uni became the only team to defeat the league-leading Bulleen Boomers this season with a 79-64 victory in Round 7.

The 2001/02 WNBL Coach of the Year has been head coach of Sydney Uni since the 2000/01 season.  After joining the team in January 2001 she led Sydney to the championship and has reached the Grand Final on six occasions since her debut season.

Second and third in voting for Coach of the Month were Bulleen Boomers’ Tom Maher and Bendigo Spirit’s Bernie Harrower. Both coaches finished the month with a 3 win, 1 loss record.
