The much-hyped return of Lauren Jackson lived up to expectations with the superstar top-scoring in her 2009/10 debut for the Capitals.

Jackson led all scorers with 18 points and posted eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks in her first WNBL game in nearly three years as she led the Canberra TransACT Capitals past the Go for 2 and 5 Perth Lynx, 102-64 in Perth on Saturday night.

Jackson, whom Canberra signed in November, has a successful history with the club after winning four championships in the nation's capital, and she looked as dominant as ever despite missing three months with a back injury.

If her performance was indicative of what coach Carrie Graf can expect for the rest of the season, the Capitals could be a strong title contender.

Guard Abby Bishop had 16 points and six rebounds, while Natalie Hurst turned in 17 points for the Caps.

But despite playing one of the biggest front courts in the WNBL with Jackson alongside Marianna Tolo, Perth out-rebounded Canberra 40-36.

The Capitals however made the most of their second opportunities and were too strong in the paint.

Graf said after the game that while it was good to have Jackson back, the team will not automatically be a favourite for the finals.

"We've got five losses and Bulleen's at the top, then we've got Sydney and Townsville above us there," she told local TV.

"But our goal before any of the Lauren Jackson stuff was to have a crack at another title.

"This is a team that will grow now with Lauren back in the mix but we've got a find away to win games.

"Lauren Jackson can't win a championship on her own - we've won titles with her and without her - but we've just got to find a way to keep developing as a group."

Perth could only outscore Canberra in the second quarter, which was the only period they scored over 16 points.

Melissa Marsh's 13-point, 10-rebound double-double was the stand-out effort for the home side, which faces the Lightning in Adelaide next Saturday night.

You can see the Capitals host the Dandenong Rangers next Saturday on ABC1 from 1.00pm AEDT.
