In Carrie Graf’s 300th WNBL game as a head coach the Canberra TransACT Capitals defeated the Adelaide Lightning 93-76.

The Capitals had plenty of offensive artillery in the contest with captain Jessica Bibby top scoring with 20 points. Marianna Tolo had 19, while Michelle Cosier enjoyed a huge night, finishing with 18 points and 10 boards.

Angela Marino was impressive for Adelaide – she finshed with 19 points, while Caitlin Cunningham had 14 and Tegan Cunningham and Mia Newley both finished with 11.

Adelaide did what they could to keep up with the offensive onslaught of the Capitals, and they strayed in touch in the first half.

Michelle Cosier was on fire for the Capitals in the first quarter on her way to a double double.

Angela Marino fought hard for the Lightning in the second quarter but the Caps were too strong and lead into half time seven points ahead.

Canberra edged away in the second half, then storming home to take the game by 13 points. Captain Jessica Bibby showed the team how it was done with some three-point magic and she completed the game with 20 points to seal the big victory.

With Dandenong losing to Logan further north, the Capitals, with six wins and one loss retain top spot, moving into their second clash of the weekend, in the much anticipated showdown with Sydney Uni. on Saturday night. The Capitals are expecting a tough game against their long-time rivals.
