The Canberra Capitals have beaten the Sydney Uni. Flames for the second time this season in a classic overtime contest 87-83 in Sydney on Saturday night.
Carly Wilson returned to form, finishing the game with 19 points, while Michelle Cosier backed up her big game last night to finish with 18. Alison Lacey enjoyed a break-out game dropping 17 points for the game.
For Sydney Uni., Amy Denson continued her fine form with 23 points, while Natalie Stafford scored 18 points. Natalie Porter double-doubled with 11 points and 11 boards.
The game was an arm-wrestle from the opening tip. Sydney enjoyed a 12-point lead in the first quarter before Canberra trimmed it back to six by quarter time.
The second took a similar trend with Sydney jumping back out to a 12 point lead before the Capitals reeled them back in to within six again.
Canberra took control in the third period and climbed into the lead by the end of the third period by one, setting up a fourth quarter showdown.
The last term saw the teams trading buckets. Amy Denson scored with 2.33 to play, leveling the contest and thatís how the score would stay, sending the battle into overtime.
Playing their eighth game in four weeks, if either side had a reason to be flat it was the Capitals, but instead, they found more in the tank to finish the game the strongest, taking the memorable win by four points.
