The Canberra TransACT Capitals have held off a gallant Townsville McCafe` Fire, to run away with a 13 point win at the AIS Arena on Friday night, 74-61.

Canberra’s Carly Wilson top-scored for the contest, finishing with 20 points and five rebounds. Marianna Tolo finished the game with 15 points and 12 boards while Michelle Cosier enjoyed another big game, scoring 12 points while reeling in nine boards to go with four steals.

For Townsville, Jo Hill had another big night, scoring 18 points for the game, while Rachael Flanagan finished with 16 and Rachel Allison scored 13. Leanne Evans double-doubled with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

After a tough first half, which saw the Fire come back from as many as 10 points down to trail by two at the half, it was the Capitals that worked their way back out to a similar lead in the third.

The Fire fought hard in the final term, getting to within two points of the Capitals off a Jo Hill bucket.  But Canberra were too strong down the stretch, with Wilson and Tolo combining to help Canberra runaway with the 13 point win.
