The Canberra Capitals have defeated the Logan Thunder for the second straight week, 80-67 in Logan on Friday night, behind a dominant performance from Suzy Batkovic who finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
The Capitals burst out of the blocks in the first term, taking a 13-4 lead. From there the Logan Thunder exploded to snatch the lead at the quarter time buzzer 25-23 behind a three pointer from Sarah Graham who finished the first quarter with ten points.
The teams traded baskets to begin the second term before Suzy Batkovic started to take over. But much like the first quarter, the Thunder steadied through three point shooting and kept in touch once again, Canberra in front 40-39 at halftime.
A physical and foul plagued third term meant neither team could find a rhythm, the lead changing hands a number of times, before Canberra broke away for a 50-43 lead halfway through the third term.
The scrappiness continued with both coaches getting frustrated, before Thunder coach Lange was given a bench tech and ensuing foul shots took a 55-48 Canberra lead. The Capitals continued to pile on the points from there, with Michelle Cosier taking her game tally to 15 points, with the third term ending with a 63-52 Canberra lead.
An early Thunder timeout in the fourth was not enough to slow a Capitals run, with Canberra breaking away to a 15 point lead, 71-56 with six minutes remaining. Canberra continued to assert themselves in the paint with Batkovic and Tolo dominating.
Carrie Graf evened up the bench techs late in the game, but the win was secured for the visitors at this point, Logan unable to stop the onslaught of points in the paint, Canberra winning that battle 44-18, to take out an 80-67 victory.
For the Canberra Capitals, Batkovic finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds. Michelle Cosier finished with 16 points and Carly Wilson had 15 points. Marianna Tolo finished with a great all round game of 11 points, four rebounds, four blocks and four assists.
For the Thunder, Sarah Graham finished with 16 points, while Renae Camino and Emma Randall both added 13 points apiece.
