The Bendigo Bank Spirit has signed highly credentialed scoring guard Renae Camino for the 2012/13 WNBL season.
Camino, who has WNBL career averages of 16 points and six rebounds per game, will bring scoring punch and athleticism to the Spirit.
Bendigo Spirit coach Bernie Harrower said he was looking forward to working with Camino.
“Renae is one of the few guards in the WNBL who has the skills and athleticism to genuinely create her own shot at any time. That makes her a constant offensive threat and very tough to defend,” he said.
“It’ll be exciting to have her in Spirit colours and we’re confident that in our system she can continue to be a dominant player in the league.”
“Renae’s got a really good balance to her game. She can get to the basket, score on a fast break and shoot the three. That makes her entertaining to watch which will be great for the region’s basketball fans.”
Camino is currently playing for the Bendigo Lady Braves in the SEABL and is averaging a team high 17 points a game to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
“I’m enjoying living in Bendigo and really looking forward to continuing my WNBL career here,” Camino said.
“The Spirit has done some great things since they’ve been in the league and hopefully I can help to continue that success and get the team back into the finals next year.”
Camino has represented Australia at junior and senior levels, won a WNBL championship, been a WNBL Grand Final most valuable player and started her career by winning the WNBL’s Rookie of the Year award. Last season she led the Logan Thunder in scoring.
