Bulleen triumphs in West despite Wilson's return

21.01.08

Australian Defence Force Opal and Lynx Captain Carly Wilson made her long-awaited return to the court on Sunday against Bulleen,

but her presence was not enough to end Perth’s 10-game losing streak.

Wilson finished with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 1 assist in 29 minutes on court as the Lynx were downed by 26 points, 76-50.

Desi Glaubitz continued her good form to top score for the Boomers with 16 points while World Champion Emma Randall added 14 points and 10 rebounds but it was perhaps the pocket rocket point guard Sharin Milner that was most effective.

She scored just 5 points but added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a thumping 6 steals while restricting Opals guard Samantha Richards to just 5 points of her own.

The WA fans were shown glimpses of promise as the Lynx started well but the scoring soon dried up as Bulleen put the clamps on Perth’s offence. They manages just six points in the second period and trailed by 17 at half time, 36-19.

Starting the second half with strong defensive pressure and intensity, the Lynx made a gallant effort to pull back the lead but Bulleen’s ability to find the open player made it difficult for the Lynx to make any major inroads into the lead.

Although Perth’s shooting jumped from a dismal 18.8 per cent in the first half to finish at 28.1 per cent, the Lynx’ inability to match their opposition’s shooting percentage has made it difficult for them to win. Bulleen shot a very respectable 45.8 per cent.

A positive for the Lynx was the outstanding performance of bench player Casey Milhovilovich who scored a team high 12 points in 17 minutes on the floor.
