The Commonwealth Games are ready to begin in Scotland, with the Australian teams looking to build on their success at Birmingham 2022, where both claimed medals.

The Australian contingent

Australia will field four teams in Glasgow, with women's and men's squads in both the 3x3 and wheelchair 3x3 events.

Expanded competition

The 3x3 field has expanded from eight to 12 teams in both the men’s and women’s competitions, and from six to eight teams in the wheelchair basketball, further highlighting the format’s rapid growth worldwide.

The women's squad

2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Marena Whittle returns for the Glasgow event.

The 2024 Olympian is joined by fellow 2026 FIBA 3x3 World Cup silver medallist Amy Atwell and Emma Clarke, who will play for the UC Capitals and Townsville Fire respectiveiely during the WNBL27 Season.

Rounding out Damon Lowery's team is two-time WNBL champion Lara McSpadden.

The rules

- Games are played on a half-court using one basket.
- Games run for 10 minutes without quarters or a half-time break.
- Play continues immediately after a basket is scored.
- Teams feature four players, with three on court and one substitute.
- The first team to score 21 points wins.
- If neither side reaches 21, the team leading when time expires is the winner.

How to watch

The Commonwealth Games will be shown in Australia via the Seven Network, inclusive of Seven, 7mate and 7plus.

The coach

2001 NBL champion Damon Lowery will lead the team in Glasgow.

Recent success

Both the women’s and men’s squads enter the tournament after winning gold at the 2025 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup in Singapore.
