3x3 Hustle brings community hoops to Townsville Tip Off

The North Queensland athletes will have the opportunity to take centre stage alongside the WNBL's rising stars, with 3x3 Hustle confirmed as the official community basketball product of the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off.

The partnership will see Townsville Basketball deliver three days of 3x3 Hustle competitions from September 14-16, ahead of the WNBL's pre-season tournament, providing players of all ages and skill levels with the chance to compete in the fast-paced format and be part of a week-long hoops celebration.

The three-day program will feature competitions across a range of age groups, from Under 9s through to Opens, creating an inclusive opportunity for players across the region to experience 3x3 basketball in a fun and competitive environment.

WNBL Chief Operations Officer Justin Nelson said bringing community basketball into the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off was an important part of creating a broader celebration of the sport.

"Community basketball is such an important part of the WNBL, and we're excited to bring 3x3 Hustle into the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off," Nelson said.

"The Tip Off is about more than the nine games we'll see on court.

"It's about bringing the basketball community together and creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect with the sport, while giving the next generation the chance to see elite women's basketball up close."

Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the Queensland Government was proud to support the 3x3 Hustle and extend the benefits of the WNBL event.

"The Tip Off is a fantastic celebration of elite sport, and I'm thrilled to see it return to Townsville for another year," Mander said.

"We want Queensland to be the home of sport in Australia and to maximise the opportunities major sporting events can create for our local communities.

"Extending the Tip Off to involve local basketballers is a great way to bring people closer to the action, and by connecting local players and fans with elite competition, we're inspiring the next generation of athletes, encouraging greater participation and fostering a lifelong love of sport."

The 3x3 Hustle competitions will take place across three days, with Under 17s and Opens competitions on Monday, September 14 from 4pm, Under 11s and Under 15s on Tuesday, September 15 from 4pm, and Under 9s and Under 13s on Wednesday, September 16 from 4pm.

The TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off will then take place from September 17-20, with all nine WNBL pre-season games to be broadcast live, marking the first time the tournament has been broadcast in full.
