Coming into her fourth season with the Townsville Fire, Froling explained the tournament is a huge win for the Townsville community and the league.
“We end up doing a lot of travelling through the season, so to have a home tip-off is pretty exciting. It's also really nice and warm here. Everyone loves Townsville, so I think it's great for everyone, It's great for the league,” she said.
Across the four-day event, fans will be able to see players fresh off their WNBA seasons, Opals playing in the WNBL for the first time since the gold medal win in the Asia Cup and plenty of standout debutants from WNBA talents to young Australian stars on the rise.
With all eyes turning to Townsville, WNBL CEO Jennie Sager said the home of the Fire is the best place to start this season.
“Townsville has an incredibly passionate community of basketball fans and with the Townsville Fire celebrating their 25th year, there is no better place to showcase women's basketball,” she said.
