Aussie Watch: Opal signs WNBA deal

Minnesota Lynx on Sunday AEST announced Australian Opals forward Chloe Bibby has signed a deal with the club.

Bibby joins Minnesota after spending time this season with the Chicago Sky as a Developmental Player, averaging 5.5 points on 40 per cent shooting from the floor, 1.5 assists and 0.5 steals per game in four appearances.

The Warracknabeal talent made her WNBA debut with the Golden State Valkyries and, while also suiting up for the Indiana Fever last season, averaging 4.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in 11 minutes per game across 14 contests.

The Victorian product played with the Dandenong Rangers in the WNBL from 2013-17, before attending US Colleges, Mississippi State and Maryland.

The two-time SEABL champion averaged 12.5 points and 5.7 rebounds during her two seasons with Maryland, earning All-Big Ten Second Team honorus in 2022 and All-Big Ten Honourable Mention recognition in 2021.

Bibby finished her five-year collegiate career with 1,373 points, 674 rebounds and 44 blocks across two seasons at Maryland and three seasons at Mississippi State.

Following that, the 28-year-old spent time with the Perth Lynx, before plying her trade in Europe, at AZS AJP Gorzów Wielkopolski (Poland) and Uni Girona CB (Spain).

At the latter, the forward averaged 14.6 points on 54.1% shooting from the floor and 36 per cent shooting from beyond the arc, along with 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in eight EuroLeague contests during the 2025-26 campaign.

Bibby was also named the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto MVP with Spar Girona during the 2024-25 season and the Polish League MVP while with AZS AJP Gorzów Wielkopolski during the 2023-24 season.

On the international stage, Bibby, who won gold at the 2025 FIBA Women's Asia Cup and bronze at the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup with the Opals, competed with the Australian Opals at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Turkey last March and will represent Australia at the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in September.
