Canada ends Gangurrus' World Cup dream

The Australian women's team have bowed out of the FIBA U23 3x3 World Cup at the quarter-final stage, falling to eventual finalists Canada.

The 2026 FIBA under 23s World Cup campaign is over for the Australian women's team, being knocked out in the quarter-finals.
The Gangurrus, headlined by Adelaide's Tayla Brazel and Townsville's Catelyn Van Es, went undefeated through the group stages but went down in the tight affair to Canada 19-16.
In the defeat in Wuhan, China, former Sydney Flame Carla Pitman had 9 points, with Brazel and Van Es adding 4 and 1 respectively.
The final two points were contributed by former Centre of Excellence talent Sophie Taylor.
After winning this quarter-final, Canada went all the way to the final before losing 15-10 to the United States.
For the bronze, Spain edged Latvia 22-14.
In the men's side of the draw, the Australian team, featuring Devan Craig, Keegan Phillips, Griffin Bower and Will Mahoney, outlasted Serbia 22-20 in overtime to claim the bronze medal.
The gold and silver medals were taken out by Lithuania and Latvia respectively.
