With a truly illustrious WNBL career, Cayla George adds another historic milestone to her resume – becoming the second all-time in games played in league history on Sunday.
The four-time Champion, 2023 MVP and the only player in league history to be top 10 in all five major statistical categories and three-pointers made, George has truly cemented herself as an icon of the WNBL.
“It’s not something you know, little Cayla Francis (maiden name) at the Australian Institute of Sport never could have [dreamed of],” she told the Southside Melbourne Flyers.
“And to sit here and say like I've achieved so much and beyond, this included in that is just, it's pretty incredible. My tear duct's getting sweaty, but like if I stopped the game of basketball right now, I've literally completed all my major goals.”
Passing Jessica Bibby, George will play her 395th game in the WNBL26 Finals against the Townsville Fire, her former Championship club.

This Semi Final will not only be a critical game in her career, with the possibility of a fifth Championship looming, but a full-circle moment for the all-time great.
“My first game was a road trip to Townsville, so I got to play against Claudia Brassard, Jennifer Crouse, she was an import that I vividly remember as being pretty intimidating because she was so tall and long and she played really hard,” she said.
“Little Cayla probably at 15, was playing with a ribbon in her hair still. It’s ironic because years later I won three Championships with the Fire.”
George and the Flyers will take on Townsville Sunday, from 4:00pm AEDT live on 9Go!
