The Gangaurrus will launch their latest 3x3 campaign in Bangkok this week as the international circuit gets underway. Here is everything you need to know before they hit the court.

The world’s top-ranked national teams will converge on Bangkok, Thailand for the FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup from March 13-15, 2026. The tournament will feature 16 teams from across the globe, with eight women's and eight men’s sides competing for the trophy. 

Coached by Damon Lowery, the squad will feature 3x3 mainstay Marena Whittle, debutant Kristy Wallace, Bendigo’s Emma Clarke and Sydney’s Lara McSpadden. While Lauren Nichsolson and Lou Brown will be emergency substitutes.

Australia will face the most recent 3x3 World Cup Champions, the Netherlands (who beat the Gangarrus in the Quarter Final), the United States featuring familiar faces in former Southside Melbourne Flyer Naz Hillmon and former Bendigo Spirit Champion Veronica Burton and Madagascar in Pool A.

A win in Thailand would qualify the Gangarrus for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2027, the FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup 2027 and cups-based Olympic Qualification Tournament for LA 2028. 

Australia has been extremely successful in the 3x3 format, winning three-straight gold medals in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cups (2023-25) and two bronze medals in the FIBA 3x3 World Cup (2023 and 2012). The side also finished fifth in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the first Olympics to hold a 3x3 tournament, with Perth Lynx stars Anneli Maley and Ally Wilson leading the way.
