The Southside Melbourne Flyers are gearing up for their historic season-opener with the UC Capitals on Saturday.
A key cog of the revamped Flyers team, which also includes the addition of Opals pair Cayla George and Issie Bourne, is US import Haley Peters.
The Duke University alum, who has played with WNBA franchises San Antonio, Washington and Connecticut during her career, recently arrived in Australia to play in a competition she's always 'heard good things' about.
“I’ve always heard really good things about the Australian League and basketball here and it’s nice to have a new challenge at this stage in my career," Peters said to CODE Sports.
In terms of impact, both on the WNBL and her club, the 33-year-old forward is excited to mentor the Flyers' talented young stars.
“I still have to learn a lot about the girls but what I like about playing now is being an older player and, while I want to play well and that’ll always be my number one priority, it’s also important for me to make sure that the team plays well and other players are playing up to their ability,” she said.
The Flyers' Round 1 clash with the UC Capitals tips off at 2pm AEDT on Saturday, live on ESPN and 9GO!
Tickets to the John Cain Arena clash are available here.
