Venom strike Spirit for convincing Tip Off win

The Geelong Venom recorded their second straight TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off win on Sunday, easily accounting for Bendigo 90-67.

Fresh off a comeback win over the UC Capitals, Geelong sprung into action early at the Murray Sporting Complex to lead 36-16 at quarter-time.

That lead grew even further in the second, as Cheryl Chambers' troops won the term 24-17, as the gap was 27 at the main break.

The understrength Bendigo rebounded in the third, winning 18-14 before a low-scoring quarter (14-all) wrapped up the fixture, seeing Geelong run out victors by 23 points.

Leading the way for Geelong was guard Indi Bowyer, who scored a game-high 23 points.

The Queensland product was well-supported on the scoring front by teammates Maddy Rocci (17), Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard (15), Sara Rose-Smith (12) and Lilly Rotunno (10).

In the defeat, all five starters reached double-figures in scoring, including Jessica Smith, Kelsey Rees (both 15), Mia Harvey (14), Marianna Tolo (12) and Olivia Olechnowicz (11).

The Venom now end the Tip Off with a 2-0 record, while the Spirit went 1-1 during the pre-season tournament.
