The Southside Melbourne Flyers announced on Thursday Australian forward Hannah Hank has committed to the club for the 2026/27 WNBL season, pending League review and approval.

Hank returns to the WNBL following successful seasons in Europe and New Zealand, where she won a championship and earned selection in the league’s All-Star Five.

She previously played for Geelong United in the WNBL after completing four seasons of NCAA Division I basketball at Clemson University from 2019–2023.

Hank has also represented Australia in 3x3 basketball, where her size, rebounding, defensive versatility, and ability to score in space have made her a strong fit for the format.

She will play an important role in the Flyers’ next phase as the club continues building a strong culture and competitive program.

Flyers Head Coach Sam Mackinnon said Hank’s experience and leadership would be valuable additions to the group.

“Hannah is exactly the type of player and person we want at the Flyers,” Mackinnon said.

“She brings professionalism, versatility, and high-level experience, and she’ll have a strong impact on our group both on and off the court.

“We’re building a connected team with a clear identity, and Hannah will play an important role alongside our emerging Australian talent and experienced leaders.”

Hank said the opportunity to return to the WNBL with the Flyers was an exciting next step in her career.

"It was great to hear from Sam about the opportunity to play for the Flyers.

"He has such a strong reputation in the game with his coaching experience, but what stood out most to me was hearing what a genuine and respected person he is from players he’s worked with.

"Everything I’ve heard about him and the culture he’s creating made this opportunity really exciting.

"The Southside Flyers are such a respected club within the WNBL, with a strong history and a real commitment to professionalism and success, so the chance to be part of that environment was something that really appealed to me too.

"I think Sam and the club are building a tough squad that I’m excited to compete with in the WNBL this season.

"I’m really looking forward to getting to work with this team and being part of this new chapter for the club.

"It’s an exciting time for the Flyers and I can’t wait to connect with the community and fans in Melbourne."
