Talking points

Adelaide desperate for a win after 0-2 start

It’s been a tough start for a new-look Adelaide Lightning, with two losses from two games leaving them searching for answers early in the season.

There have been encouraging signs, with import Shay Ciezki impressing, and the Lightning jumping out to an early lead against the defending champions, but Abbey Ellis’ 47-point masterclass proved too much in the end.

Aja Parham-Ammar’s side will be eager to get off the mark in this one, and if they can put four quarters together like their first half against Townsville, they’re certainly a chance to break through for that first win.

Anneli Maley back in action

Fresh off a stint with the New York Liberty in the WNBA, Anneli Maley is back in Perth and ready to make her WNBL27 debut.

Maley was one of the League’s most dominant players last season, earning All-WNBL First Team honours as the Lynx mad their way to the Grand Final Series.

Maley’s return gives Perth’s frontcourt a huge boost heading into their clash with the Lightning, and if she plays anything like she did last season, Adelaide might be in for a long afternoon.
