Talking points

Ellis looking to build on record-breaking display

Abbey Ellis led the charge on Tuesday night as Townsville bounced back from an Opening Round loss to Perth with a big road win over Adelaide.

The Fire star produced one of the greatest performances in League history, pouring in a franchise-record 47 points to drag the defending champions back from a first-half deficit.

Ellis will need to carry that form into today’s home clash with undefeated Sydney, and if she finds that same rhythm, the Fire will be a tough challenge for the Flames’ star-studded lineup.

Flames are tough to stop

The Sydney Flames have made a perfect start to the WNBL27 Season, sitting at 3-0 after wins over Southside Melbourne, Adelaide, and now the UC Capitals.

Opal Ally Wilson was strong in her return against Canberra, though she'll miss again this time around, while Issie Bourne, Lauren Nicholson, and Jaz Shelley were all their impactful selves, with the Flames now having one of the most dangerous lineups in the league.

Their biggest test yet comes against the defending champions. If Sydney can contain Townsville and make it four-in-a-row, they will cement themselves as the team to beat in the early stages of WNBL27.
