The UC Capitals are loading up for a strong WNBL27 season by announcing the re-signing of Isabella Brancatisano on Tuesday.
Brancatisano said her decision to return to Canberra for a second season was an easy one, driven by both the environment and the people within the program, including fellow re-signed Cap Nyadiew Puoch.
“I had a great time in Canberra - it’s a very welcoming place. I’m looking forward to seeing those familiar faces, being part of the program, playing with Nyadiew, and being coached by Goz (Paul Goriss) again,” Brancatisano said.
She also highlighted the connection with head coach Goriss and the Capitals fan base.
“Goz coaches you hard, and I appreciate that, but he also can have a joke, so I love the balance that he brings,” she said.
“The Canberra fans are fantastic. They're so passionate, they're so loyal. Interacting with them and playing in front of them is so much fun.”
Brancatisano proved to be a valuable contributor throughout WNBL26, earning a reputation for her toughness, defensive intensity and ability to stretch the floor with her three-point shooting.
UC Capitals Executive General Manager Christy Collier-Hill said Brancatisano’s re-signing was an important step in shaping the team’s identity.
“Isa brings incredible toughness, experience and leadership to our roster, and we’re thrilled she’s returning for a second season in Caps colours,” Collier-Hill said.
“With her on-court grit and competitiveness, she became a real fan favourite last season, and no doubt our fans will be just as excited she’ll be back on court for us next season.”
Goriss echoed those sentiments, highlighting Brancatisano’s versatility and impact.
“Isa was a vital part of our team last season and brings a great work ethic, maturity and leadership to our team,” he said.
“Along with her ability to defend up the floor and be a menace on defence she is a very reliable three-point shooter.
“Isa also showed her ability to finish at the rim. While she played out of position at times due to injuries, having some continuity in our team is important.”
Brancatisano, who previously played for the Sydney Flames, is now playing NBL1 South with the Melbourne Tigers, alongside her sister Charlotte.
