The Tasmania Jewels have made history, selling out MyState Bank Arena for their first-ever game in the WNBL on Thursday night.
The team announced on Tuesday they hit the magic 4,200-plus ticket sales for their season home fixture against the Geelong Venom.
Head Coach Claudia Brassard broke the news to her team during a briefing before a training session at the team’s High Performance Training Centre.
“Tasmania has made a big statement,” Brassard told players.
“The community that loves us has got behind us. We’re a sellout!”
The players erupted in elated applause before ringing the club bell that marks milestones inside the Tasmanian franchise.
The sellout adds to the Jewels’ success before they’ve even hit the court, with the team breaking the all-time WNBL record for memberships.
Currently, the Jewels have in excess of 4,000 memberships, which eclipses the previous record of 3,331 set by the former Melbourne Boomers in 2017-18.
Thursday’s fixture tips off at 7pm AEDT, live on 9Now and ESPN via Disney+.
