Shelley eruption guides Flames past Jewels

A Jaz Shelley scoring explosion has guided the Sydney Flames to a 100-83 win over Tasmania at the 2026 TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off.

The guard, in her first game with the club since her move from Geelong, hit 8 triples on her way to 34 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.

Shelley was one of six Flames to score in double figures, being joined by skipper Lauren Nicholson (13), Issy Morgan, Zoey Miller (both 12), Maya Dodson and Agnes Emma-Nnopu (both 10).

In the defeat, captain Darcee Garbin chalked up 23 points, with Brooke Basham, Keely Froling and Taylor Mole all adding 11.

At the Murray Sports Complex, Renae Garlepp's side jumped out of the gate in the first period to lead 33-15 at quarter-time.

The second term was a much tighter affair, with the Jewels winning it 24-22, to reduce the margin at half-time to 16.

Tasmania once again won the third period (18-14), before the Flames ran away with the game in the fourth with a 31-26 period, to seal the 17-point triumph.

Sydney next face reigning champions Townsville on Sunday, while the Jewels' Tip Off is over, having split their games 1-1.
