Australian basketball prospect Katie Deeble is embracing the chance to be part of history, becoming the latest player to commit to the Tasmania Jewels, pending League approval.
At just 22, Deeble has already built an impressive basketball resume. A former Canberra Capitals guard, she spent time developing her game in the highly competitive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with Wake Forest University before returning home, where she is currently starring for the North Gold Coast Seahawks in the NBL1.
Known for her sharp three-point shooting and relentless defensive intensity, Deeble adds another exciting dimension to Tasmania's roster that continues to take shape ahead of the club's highly anticipated debut campaign.
Jewels Head Coach Claudia Brassard said Deeble's style of play aligns perfectly with the identity the club is determined to establish.
"Adding Katie gives us another genuine outside threat and someone who can stretch the floor with her three-point shooting," Brassard said.
"Just as importantly, she brings the type of full-court defensive pressure we want to be known for.
"Katie has a reputation as a hard worker, a team-first player and someone who competes with real purpose, so she fits perfectly with the standards-led culture we're building at the Jewels."
For Deeble, the opportunity to help launch an entirely new WNBL franchise was one she couldn't pass up.
"To be part of building a team from scratch, it's history in the making, and I think that's really cool," she said.
"We have a really stacked team with so much experience, so I'm focused on learning as much as I can while doing everything I can to help the team succeed.
"I've actually never been to Tasmania before, so I'm really excited to get there, become part of the community and experience WNBL game days with the fans."
Deeble joins an increasingly experienced Tasmania lineup featuring Steph Reid, Keely Froling, Darcee Garbin and Taylor Mole, alongside development players Nikki Parker, Andie Smith, Chloe Broomhall, Portia Chopping, Ava McDonald and Georgia Taylor, as the Jewels continue assembling their squad for their historic first WNBL season.
