Bendigo Spirit’s Kennedy Kereama has been named the WNBL26 Coach of the Year, recognising his outstanding leadership and impact throughout the 2025-26 season.

The prestigious award celebrates excellence in coaching, strategic innovation, and the ability to inspire sustained high performance across the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) season.

In his third season at the helm, Kereama masterminded one of the competition’s most impressive campaigns, guiding the Spirit to a third-place finish on the regular season ladder despite working with a largely new playing group.

With the majority of his playing group new to the club ahead of WNBL26, Kereama’s ability to build connection, clarity and belief within the group proved instrumental. From pre-season through to the final round, Bendigo demonstrated consistency, discipline and a clear identity, hallmarks of their Head Coach’s influence.

Under his guidance, Bendigo established itself as one of the league’s most competitive, resilient and well-balanced teams, renowned for its defensive intensity, unselfish offence, and ability to rise to key challenges throughout the season.

Beyond results, Kereama’s impact was evident in the growth of his players. He empowered emerging talent to take the next step while creating an environment where experienced leaders thrived, fostering a unified group that consistently performed at a high standard.

WNBL CEO Jennie Sager praised Kereama’s influence on and off the court.

“Kennedy’s impact this season has been exceptional,” Sager said.

“To bring together a largely new group and turn them into one of the most consistent and competitive teams in the league is a remarkable achievement. His leadership, professionalism, and commitment are to be commended, and he is a role model for anyone starting their coaching journey.”

As the Spirit turn their attention to the Finals, Kereama’s award stands as recognition of a season defined by resilience, unity, and high performance and a testament to the impact of strong leadership in elite sport.
