The Southside Melbourne Flyers announced on Friday that exciting Australian forward, Lara Edmanson, has committed to the club for the WNBL27 season pending WNBL review and approval.
A Melbourne local, Edmanson enjoyed a strong collegiate career in the US with the Santa Clara Broncos and Villanova Wildcats between 2020 and 2025.
Prior to her college career, Edmanson had a taste of WNBL as a training player with the Melbourne Boomers while attending the NBA Global Academy women’s camp in 2019.
In 2020, she was a member of the Victorian Under 20 Australian National Championship team.
Flyers coach Sam Mackinnon said the recruitment of Edmanson is another example of what the Flyers are building.
“Lara is an exciting young player with a strong basketball IQ, and we are looking forward to working with her to continue her development,” McKinnon said.
“She can score, is strong on the boards, and has a great work rate, as well as being a quality young person who will play an important role off the court and in the community.”
Edmanson is looking forward to joining the Flyers at the end of the NBL1 season with Mount Gambier in the South.
“I was delighted when Sam contacted me about this opportunity to join the Flyers and the chance to train with him and understand what the Flyers are building,” Edmanson said.
“His philosophy on the game is to bring together young players and experienced leaders with everyone prepared to work, compete, and put the team first.
“It is exciting to have this opportunity to be part of an environment where players can thrive."
Further player announcements will be made in the coming weeks.”
Edmanson joins Hannah Han and Haylee Andrews on the Flyers’ roster for next season.
