The Perth Lynx has signed yet another major addition in WNBA talent Brianna Turner on a short-term contract to begin WNBL26.

Signing as a Nominated Replacement Player, Turner will fill-in for 6’11” Chinese sensation Han Xu during her period of unavailability due to national team commitments.

Turner will be a familiar face to many fans, having played with the Adelaide Lightning for three seasons, starting in the 2019/20 season, followed by back-to-back campaigns from 2023 to 2025.

Turner is known as one of the best defenders in basketball, being named as a finalist for the Robyn Maher Defensive Player of the Year award in her past two seasons in the WNBL. With her impressive 6’3” frame, next-level athleticism and an unrivalled energy – Turner will make an immediate impact on Perth’s already impressive defence.

The two-time WNBA Defensive First Team member (2020, ‘21) holds the Phoenix Mercury franchise record for most rebounds in a game (21) and is the first player in WNBA history to record 10+ points, 20+ rebounds, 5+ assists and 4+ blocks in a single game in 2020 against the Connecticut Suns.

This past season, she was a critical piece to the Indiana Fever’s fairytale run without their superstar Caitlin Clark – leading them to deciding game five of the WNBA Semi Finals against the eventual Champion Las Vegas Aces.

After a successful WNBA campaign, Turner said she cannot wait to play in Australia once again.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the Perth Lynx and competing in the WNBL once again,” Turner said.

“It’s a great opportunity to contribute to a strong team and experience basketball in a new environment. I’m ready to get to work and help the team start the season strong.”

Lynx Head Coach, Ryan Petrik, added that Turner will be a perfect fit for their early-season campaign.

“Brianna is a proven winner and one of the best defenders in the world,” Petrik said.

“Her ability to protect the rim, rebound and lead by example will be huge for us. We’re excited to welcome her to Perth and can’t wait to see her in action.”
