The UC Capitals have secured a key piece of their roster, with rising star Nyadiew Puoch re-signing for the next two seasons.
The WNBA draft pick was a standout in Canberra’s campaign, with the side just falling short of the FInals with a 9-14 record in an injury riddled WNBL26 campaign. Puoch stepped into a starting role after the departure of Sara Blicavs and thrived, averaging 14.3 points and five rebounds per game across the final 11 games of the season.
In what will go down as one of the most electrifying moments of the WNBL26 regular season, Pouch delivered a stunning half-court buzzer-beater against the Perth Lynx in January, an audacious shot that sent shockwaves through AIS Arena.
Returning for WNBL27 and 28, the 21-year-old said she is eager to build on her momentum under Head Coach Paul Groiss.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to get better and hopefully win a championship. Being at the Caps for my second season now, I feel like Goz has coached me my whole
Life,” she said.
“He believes in me and is always willing to help me get better, and I think every player needs a coach like that. He knows my goals and I know his vision for the team - I’m excited to continue to achieve that.”
Aligning with Goriss’ coaching extension, Pouch will enter her fifth WNBL season as the Capitals continue to build towards a Championship push.
