6’4” emerging talent Darcy Rees has committed to the Sydney Flames, finalising their WNBL27 roster pending League approval.
With five years of experience at the University of Washington and multiple seasons overseas in Switzerland, England and Germany. The 26-year-old’s global experience will be an important addition to Sydney’s depth.
Averaging 13.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for the NBL1 East’s Illawarra Hawks, her ability to protect the paint and collect rebounds will be a difference-maker for Head Coach Renae Garlepp in WNBL27.
"Darcy is an exciting young player who has a really bright future ahead of her," Garlepp said.
"She gives us great size, works incredibly hard and fits exactly what we're building as a group. She rounds out our roster, and we're excited to see the impact she can make throughout the season."
Sister of Bendigo’s Kelsey Rees, Darcy cannot wait to return home and play in front of friends and family in her debut WNBL season.
"Having spent the last few years competing in Europe, I’m really looking forward to being back home in Australia, closer to friends and family, and getting to work,” she said.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of what the club is building and can’t wait for the season ahead.”
Sydney is the first team to finalise its roster, with Isabelle Bourne, Charlise Dunn, Agnes Emma-Nnopu, Isabelle Morgan, Lauren Nicholson, Ally Wilson, Maya Dodson, Shuyu Yang and Rees completing the club's 10-player roster.
