The Sydney Flames announced on Thursday they have bolstered their roster by signing French import Olivia Époupa.

The 31-year-old point guard, who won a WNBL championship with the UC Capitals and was named Grand Final MVP during the 2019-20 season, replaces Grace Berger on Guy Molloy's side, after the latter was recently released due to an ongoing injury issue.

"Obviously we were frustrated to lose Grace, who we put a lot of work into signing, for medical reasons," coach Molloy said.

"Because a decision was made so close to the start of the season, I thought we might be without a second import for some time but then I was made aware of Olivia's availability, which was really exciting.

"It all moved quickly and I feel she can be a great addition to our squad, because her lightning quickness suits us on both ends, with her ability to pressure the ball and get her feet in the paint.

"There are few guards in the league with her quickness, and I can't wait to see her in Flames colours."

During her career, the Paris-born talent has played in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx, helping the side win the 2024 Commissioner's Cup.

She has also played professionally in France, Turkey and Hungary, with her most recent stop being at OGM Ormanspor.

The Flames host the Southside Melbourne Flyers in their home opener on Friday, with the Indigenous Round fixture tipping off at 7pm AEDT, live on ESPN2 and 9Now.

Tickets for the Quaycentre fixture are still available here.
