The Sydney Flames have found a diamond in the rough – NSW rising star Isabelle Morgan.
In just six games, the 23-year-old has quickly become one of Head Coach Guy Molloy’s key culture-setters off the bench, averaging more than 13 minutes per game in her rookie season.
The 5’10” guard has returned home to Sydney on a two-year deal - the first as a development player before stepping up to a full roster in year two. Her journey back to Australia followed a standout college career at Davidson College in the United States, where she was a consistent starter through to her senior year.
Morgan is a success story of the NSW junior pathway, honing her skills with the Norths Bears and Sydney’s Future Flames program. Morgan also represented Australia at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup, where her teammates included current Flame Shaneice Swain and several other WNBL young stars.
Morgan’s steady rise has already begun to show on the court, playing a career-high 19:42 minutes against Adelaide in Round 4, finishing with three points and three assists, coach Molloy said Morgan has put in the work to earn WNBL minutes.
“She’s got a great work ethic and high attention to detail. Every day she’s trying to come in and get better, she’s really added to our defensive intensity,” he said post-game.
“She’s pressing her claim in her rookie season that she should play more.”
Can Morgan be the spark Sydney needs to get their season back on track? Watch the UC Capitals host the Flames on Saturday, 15 November, live from 3:00pm AEDT on 9Go and ESPN.
