Jewels unveil 'best facility in the country'

The new Tasmania Jewels and JackJumpers High Performance Training Centre at Kingston officially opened on Thursday, and it's already being hailed as the 'best facility in the country'.

The $20 million purpose-built facility includes courts, strength and conditioning spaces, recovery and treatment areas, team meeting rooms and integrated high performance amenities for the state's NBL and WNBL franchises.

Jewels Head Coach Claudia Brassard said the new facility will give her side a competitive advantage ahead of their maiden WNBL campaign.

"It's hands down the best facility in the country, and that's a major drawcard," Brassard said.

"It's already giving us a competitive edge before we've even hit the court.

"Players want to join the Jewels in part because of it, from Steph Reid to Darcee Garbin and our imports.

"From the minute our athletes wake up, to the minute they go home, they have everything they need to enable them to be the best they can be."

JackJumpers coach Scott Roth, who helped the club win its maiden championship during the Hungry Jack's NBL24 Season, said this was a momentous day for the club.

"The players are very happy; we have a facility that sets a new standard for the rest of Australia," Roth said during Thursday's press conference.

"To be quite honest with you, five years ago we were across the street in a very small building, cold in the mornings, and to see this all come to finish is an amazing story.

"It's going to set the bar for Australian sports, especially in the basketball world, and we're just excited to be in here and start to settle in."

The JackJumpers open their campaign on Monday, September 21 against South East Melbourne at MyState Bank Arena, while the Jewels' first-ever game is at the same venue, against Geelong, on October 15.
