TechnologyOne powers WNBL Townsville Tip Off

The WNBL on Tuesday announced Queensland-based technology company TechnologyOne, as the presenting partner of the second-ever pre-season tournament, the Townsville Tip Off.

The TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off will bring all nine teams to North Queensland, with the powerful partnership unlocking increased community engagement, broadcast and training sessions across referees, coaches and players.

Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the Crisafulli Government was proud to support the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off.

"The Crisafulli Government is committed to delivering opportunities for sport in North Queensland, and it's events like these that showcase our regions and boost the local economy," Minister Mander said.

"Queensland is the home of Australian sport, and a huge part of that is the contribution that North Queensland makes to developing talent and creating a strong sense of community around sport.

"Backing events like the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off is part of our commitment to growing women's sport, strengthening regional communities and building excitement as Queensland prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Local Member for Townsville Adam Baillie said the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off would reinforce the region's growing reputation as a destination for elite sporting events.

"This is exactly the kind of event regional Queensland needs, bringing visitors through the door, filling hotel rooms and backing local jobs," Mr Baillie said.

"We're getting on with the job of securing more events that grow regional economies like Townsville and keep Queensland leading the nation."

Chief Executive Officer of TechnologyOne, Ed Chung, is excited to team up with the WNBL.

"Our purpose has always been to make life simple for the communities we serve, and for almost 40 years, that has meant backing the local things that matter: the clubs, the volunteers, the grassroots competitions where every great Australian sporting story begins," Chung said.

"Bringing all nine WNBL teams to Townsville for four days is that purpose brought to life.

"We proudly support women in tech and women in sport, because they're the same story; exceptional talent that deserves real backing.

"As Brisbane 2032 approaches, the Opals and the Gliders will carry the dreams of many Australians, and the athletes who'll wear the green and gold are on these courts right now.

WNBL Chief Operating Officer Justin Nelson said this marks a major milestone for Australia's longest-running women's league.

"The WNBL is incredibly excited to welcome TechnologyOne to the family," Nelson said.

"This is an elite event, and it is always good to have globally leading partners join with us to help put on a great show.

"Last year, the Townsville community turned out in force for the Tip Off, and with the added support of TechnologyOne, we are ready to take it to the next level this September."

WNBL Chief Strategy and Basketball Partnerships Officer, Lauren Jackson, said she's looking forward to seeing the action take centre stage in North Queensland, starting with the community clinics from August 16.

"Queensland has some incredible basketball talent; you only need to look at some of our WNBL players hailing from across the state: Cairns, Mackay, South-East Queensland and Townsville.

"We're proud to partner with SheHoops to deliver a range of community clinics across North Queensland as part of our pre-season tournament, starting in Cairns from August 16.

"It's an amazing opportunity for young people to get involved with basketball and learn from some of the world's best.

"The TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off is an opportunity for us to spotlight local talent and connect directly with the next generation of athletes across North Queensland."

The TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off will take place in Townsville from September 17-20, with tickets still available.
