The Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) is pleased to announce that, for the first time, the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off will be broadcast live, with all nine games of the pre-season tournament to be available on 9Now and Disney+.

The landmark broadcast deal will provide fans across Australia with live coverage of the pre-season tournament, while audiences outside Australia will also be able to watch every game via the WNBL YouTube channel.

WNBL Chief Operating Officer Justin Nelson said the broadcast of the Townsville Tip Off was another important step in growing the league’s reach and giving fans greater access to the WNBL.

“Townsville Tip Off is one of the biggest moments on the WNBL calendar and, for the first time, fans everywhere will be able to watch every game live,” Nelson said.

“Being able to showcase all nine games across 9Now, Disney+ and internationally through the WNBL YouTube channel is a huge opportunity to build anticipation for the season and give fans a first look at the teams and players they’ll be following throughout WNBL27.”

Member for Townsville Adam Baillie MP said the broadcast would help shine a bigger spotlight on both the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off and Townsville's growing reputation as the Sporting and Events capital of the North.

"The broadcast of the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off will showcase our city to a global audience, highlighting Townsville as a premier destination for major events, sport and tourism,” Mr Baillie said.

"Through Destination 2045, we're backing events that raise Queensland's profile, create new opportunities for regional communities like Townsville, and help build excitement as we continue to pave the way towards the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

"The live broadcast of the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off means kids across the country – and especially those in other parts of regional Australia – can watch their heroes in action in communities just like theirs and be inspired by what's possible.

"We're proud to back women in sport and women in tech. Both deserve visibility, opportunity and support, and we're excited to see that on display in Townsville this September.”

Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto said he was eager to welcome the WNBL Townsville Tip Off back to the sporting and events capital of northern Australia.

"There’s no better way of bringing in the WNBL season, than by broadcasting our city across the country and the world for the Townsville Tip Off from right here in basketball heartland,” Cr Dametto said.

“We’re extremely proud of our five-time champions, the Townsville Fire and we look forward to them showing not only the other teams, but also viewers how we do it here in North Queensland.”
