The Townsville Fire have moved swiftly to secure the architect of their on-court resurgence, announcing on Friday that head coach Shannon Seebohm has inked a new three-year-deal that will keep him at the helm until the end of the WNBL29 season.

Since arriving in Townsville ahead of the WNBL19 season, Seebohm has turned the Fire into a perennial finals outfit, while also guiding them to their most recent championship during the 2022-23 campaign.

Fire CEO Sam Pascoe said keeping Seebohm was critical to both the club’s competitive ambitions and its wider organisational vision.

“Shannon drives high standards in every corner of our program,” Pascoe said.

“He’s built a culture that players believe in, fans connect with and our community is proud of. Retaining him was a major priority as we plan for the next phase of the Fire’s future.”

For Seebohm, the extension reinforces his commitment to Townsville, a place he has repeatedly referred to as a second home.

“I love this club and this city,” Seebohm said.

“We have a special fan base, an incredible support system, and a group of athletes who work every day to be better. I’m grateful for the trust shown in me and excited for what we can achieve.”

Townsville, who sit on top of the ladder after Round 5, host the UC Capitals on Saturday from 7pm AEDT.

Tickets to the fixture, which will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and 9Now, are still available here.
