The UC Capitals have completed their WNBL27 roster with a bang, following the commitment of American point guard Megan McConnell, pending League approval.
McConnell, who averaged 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game in her debut WNBL season with the Bendigo Spirit in 2025-26, is ready to continue her hoops career in Canberra.
"I'm most looking forward to playing in Australia again, experiencing a new place that has such a great fan base, and a team that will bring a lot of excitement to each game," McConnell said.
McConnell brings WNBA experience with her to the Caps, signing a training camp contract with the Indiana Fever earlier this year, as well as spending time with the Phoenix Mercury in 2025.
Capitals Head Coach Paul Goriss expects McConnell's style of play to complement the existing squad, with her strengths set to add another dimension to the Caps rotation.
"Meg brings toughness, energy and effort to our backcourt," Goriss said.
"We really liked her full-court defensive pressure, ability to defend at a high level, and she's an excellent rebounder for a guard.
"Offensively, her speed and aggressiveness in transition will suit how we want to play.
"She is passionate about the game and committed to improving.
"Meg's WNBL experience last season will allow her to come in with confidence, and her selfless, team-first approach will fit in well with our group."
McConnell, who is the younger sister of NBA player TJ, enjoyed a standout collegiate career at Duquesne University, chalking up 144 games across her five seasons.
She finished as the NCAA Division I all-time leader in assists (660) and steals (370), while also recording four triple-doubles.
Named to the Atlantic 10 First Team in both her junior and senior years, McConnell remains second on Duquesne's all-time scoring list.
Caps Executive General Manager Christy Collier-Hill is looking forward to seeing McConnell in Caps colours after her impressive debut season.
"Meg is a tough, competitive guard who brings great energy, works incredibly hard and will add real depth to our backcourt," Collier-Hill said.
"Just as importantly, she's a terrific person and someone we know will fit really well within the group and the culture we're continuing to build here in Canberra.
"We think Caps fans are really going to enjoy watching Meg play and seeing the energy and excitement she brings to the court."
McConnell secures the 10th and final spot on the Caps roster, joining Nyadiew Puoch, Isa Brancatisano, Nicole Munger, Sharne Robati, Charlotte Whittaker, Isabel Palmer, Manuela Puoch, Amy Atwell and Caitlyn Jones.
