After a ground-breaking WNBL26 season, the spotlight shifts from the big stage to local courts as NBL1 tips off. 

Australia’s premier winter basketball competition, NBL1 brings together both women’s and men’s leagues across five conference: NBL1 East (NSW, ACT), NBL1 North (Queensland), NBL1 South (VIC, TAS, SA),  NBL1 West (WA) and NBL1 Central (SA).

From suburban strongholds to metropolitan hubs, NBL1 plays out in front of passionate local crowds, with elite talent in community settings. The competition doubles as a proving ground and a homecoming, Emerging stars hone their craft while  WNBL stars reconnect with their roots. 

The crossover with the WNBL is significant, with current players and alumni spread across the nation, ensuring a high standard of play throughout the winter. 

For many, NBL1 is more than a stopgap, it’s a springboard. WNBL26 Finals MVP Courntey Woods refined her playmaking in NBL1 North before translating that growth into a standout campaign. ‍

Four of the five NBL1 competitions have tipped off across the country with the NBL1 North competition joining the frenzy on April 17. With the competition all but up and running, it once again reinforces its role as a vital extension of the WNBL ecosystem, fueling development, maintaining momentum and keeping Australia’s top talent on the court year-round.
