The WNBL has enjoyed a successful opening to the coming 2026-27 season, seeing the Geelong Venom crowned champions of the 2026 TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off.
The event made headlines across the nation after the League announced the trial of three rules at Tip Off, and now all fans who attended or watched any of the pre-season games are being invited to have their say.
The trials included player only timeouts, immediate inbound passing in the back-court, and one free throw for maximum points.
A number of players spoke positively about the trials in interviews across the event, with the up-tempo style and pace of the games getting a thumbs up.
WNBL Chief Operating Officer Justin Nelson said it is now "very important" that fans also have their say before the League decides if it will look at introducing any of the trials into the full season.
"Thank you to the players for embracing the trials, I think they genuinely enjoyed leading on the innovation front and giving us all a look at some new things,” Nelson said.
"I spoke with Maddy Rocci after she received the Tiana Mangakahia Award and she mentioned how much she loved the trials, which was pleasing because we want the WNBL and the players to be open to change and innovation.
"Not everything will work, but we're keen to try new things, embrace being a little bit uncomfortable, and see where it takes us."
The players will provide their thoughts in the coming days, as will coaches and officials.
Fans who attended the games in Townsville or watched any of the action on television are being asked to email their feedback on the three trials to info@wnbl.com.au.
