WNBL rising stars set to shine for Gems

Tasmania's Andie Smith and Adelaide's Aspen Crase have been named in the Australian Gems' extended squad.

Basketball Australia unveiled its extended Gems roster for the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup in Malaysia, with a pair of WNBL rising stars headlining the group.
Development players Andie Smith (Tasmania) and Aspen Crase (Adelaide) are part of Kristi Harrower's 20-person squad, which will compete from October 4-10. Harrower will lead this window for the Gems with Sydney Flames coach Renae Garlepp unavailable with WNBL coaching commitments.
Harrower is no stranger to the AUS Basketball system as a former player and assistant coach with the Australian Opals. The 4x Olympian will be able to apply principles of the pathway as preparations firm for the tournament.
Joining the WNBL duo in the squad are Reece Anticevic, Eliza Ashby, Cheyenne Bobongie, Rebecca Donnelly, Mia Harvey, Abbey Jones, Addison Knight, Jemyma Manyok, Lily Mapp, Daisy Nousis, Olivia Olechnowicz, Kaila Proctor, Sophie Richardson, Madison Ryan, Eliza Shanahan, Jade Sherrington, Isabel Smith and Matilda Trout.
A selection camp will be hosted at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra from September 8-11, before a final 12 will be selected.
The tournament tips off for the Gems against the Philippines on Sunday, October 4 at 2:30pm AEST.
