The WNBL has officially launched its WNBL27 Season, with the countdown now on to what promises to be an exciting new chapter for women’s basketball in Australia.
The season was officially launched on Thursday at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners’ (CCEP) head offices in Sydney, with WNBL players Jaz Shelley, Issy Morgan, Manuela Puoch and Amy Atwell joining owners Robyn and Victoria Denholm, alongside WNBL Chief Operating Officer Justin Nelson, to mark the occasion.
With WNBL27 just days away, anticipation is building ahead of an opening round featuring some of the world’s best basketball talent and the much-talked-about introduction of the Tasmania Jewels.
The season tips off on Thursday, October 15, in Tasmania, with the Jewels set to make their WNBL debut at their home court, MyState Bank Arena, against Geelong.
The historic occasion is expected to draw a sell-out crowd, laying the platform for an exciting new WNBL campaign.
WNBL Chief Operating Officer Justin Nelson said the League was looking forward to building on its recent momentum and delivering an outstanding season for fans across the country.
“WNBL27 is just days away, and we are all genuinely excited about the ongoing growth of the League and the prospect of watching so many global stars this season,” Nelson said.
“We are expecting a sell-out in Tasmania next Thursday night to open the season and welcome the Jewels to the WNBL.
“It will be the perfect start to this highly anticipated season.
“A big thank you to our growing family of commercial partners and broadcasters, and a rapidly expanding fanbase.
“We are on the verge of experiencing the biggest era of women’s basketball in Australia; enjoy the ride.”
Following the season opener in Tasmania, fans can look forward to a packed opening round as all nine teams begin their campaigns, with clubs eager to make an early statement in the race for the WNBL27 championship.
With a compelling mix of established stars, emerging Australian talent and international standouts, WNBL27 is poised to deliver a season full of storylines, rivalries and unforgettable moments as the League continues to build momentum.
