Young South Australian star joins the Lightning

The Adelaide Lightning has reinforced its dedication to nurturing South Australian talent with rising star Coco Hodges committing to the club as a Development Player for the upcoming WNBL27 season, subject to league review and approval.

Hodges’ commitment marks a significant milestone for the club’s talent pathway and highlights the strength of local basketball talent.

“Putting on the Lightning jersey means the world to me,” Hodges said. 

“Growing up, my dream was always to play in the WNBL, so now to have the opportunity to step onto the court at this level, in my home city, for the team I grew up supporting, is incredibly special.

“The vision that Tess and Aja have for the future of the club is exciting. 

“They’re investing in the development of their players while pushing to win championships.

“As a young player stepping into the WNBL for the first time, I really am looking forward to just challenging myself against talented and experienced players, taking opportunities as they come and soaking up as much as I can.”

Adelaide Lightning General Manager Tess Madgen said Hodges’ progression is a testament to her hard work and a perfect example of the club’s development vision.

"Coco has always been a standout, coming through the junior pathway in South Australia, and her performances at Under 20 Nationals, where she helped lead the team to a gold medal, have translated incredibly well into NBL1 Central," Madgen said.

"She is incredibly versatile and can impact the game anywhere on the court. 

“She does it all - scoring, defending, passing and making those around her better.

"We hope it [this move] inspires other young South Australians to see what is possible and to believe there is a genuine pathway from junior basketball into the WNBL.”

Head Coach of the Adelaide Lightning, Aja Parham-Ammar, said she’s looking forward to seeing Hodges put on the uniform and contribute to the team.

Hodges joins Steph Talbot, Dallas Loughridge, Tayla Brazel, Jessica McDowell-White. Zitina Aokuso and Gemma Potter as committed players to the roster pending WNBL review and approval.
