WNBL Integrity & Compliance

WNBL Guiding Principles

The management of Integrity and Compliance is a core aspect of theWNBL’s operations and governance framework. Upholding Integrity on and off court is central to basketball, whilst promoting fairness, honesty, and respect for the game.

This applies at all levels across players, coaches, officials, and fans alike, with the potential to enrich the basketball experience for everyone involved.

At the WNBL, Integrity and Compliance plays a key role through governing rules and regulations, promoting sportsmanship on and off the court, and embracing inclusivity and equality.

The National Integrity Framework (NIF) is integral to the WNBL’s commitment to Integrity in partnership with Basketball Australia (BA). The NIF encompasses a suite of policies, educational materials and resources dealing with integrity related issues such as gambling and match fixing, anti-doping, child safeguarding and all forms of corruption.

These policies can be found on the Basketball Australia website as follows:

WNBL Review Process

The WNBL Tribunal process addresses conduct issues across Regular Season and Finals Series. Reports of misconduct trigger a review by the
Game Review Panel (GRP), which promptly notifies the player and their club of any Charged Offence. During the Regular Season, the Single Member Tribunal (SMT), or the player can opt for an Early Plea Penalty. In contrast, during the Finals Series, cases proceed directly to the Full Member Tribunal (FMT). Both tribunals have the authority to impose penalties, with a provision for appeals within a defined timeframe. This structured process ensures reviews are conducted promptly and decisions are made fairly across all stages of competition.
