Cayla announces a new member to the George family

WNBL all-time great Cayla George has announced she is expecting her second child, sharing the exciting news with fans in an Instagram post. 

The newest addition will join daughter Pearl, who is set to become a big sister. 

The announcement marks a significant chapter in Gerorge’s family journey. After struggling with fertility for several years, George welcomed Pearl through the Torres Strait Islander practice of Kupai Omasker, where he sister-in-law gifted George and her husband, Kailou, a child, Pearl. 

George spoke candidly about the emotional journey in the Beyond The WNBL documentary series.

"It's a massive blessing for my family and we are all super excited… when I'm not nauseous,” George told Basketball Australia. 

"It's been a pretty unexpected journey. My year was looking a little different, so trying to recalibrate my brain to embrace this incredible change!" 

Throughout George’s decorated basketball career, Pearl has travelled alongside the family across the globe, from Las Vegas and China to Sydney, Melbourne and numerous Opals campaigns. With a new addition soon joining the adventure, George reflected on the unique experiences basketball has provided her family.

"Pearl has Aunties from all over the world and that will be the same for this baby,” George said. 

“One of the biggest blessings about this game is the people you connect with along the journey.

"Since sharing the news, I have felt so loved, and my family feels it too.” 

Following the announcement, George became a late withdrawal from the upcoming Opals vs China series in Melbourne.
